The Kalamunda Community Garden grew out of the monthly meetings held in Kalamunda Town Square Hall by Grow It Yourself (GIY) Australia. GIY Coordinators, Lisa Passmore and Murray Barton, instigated the concept of a garden where the community could come together and grow their own food. A management plan was drawn up by Linda Stanley and put to the Shire of Kalamunda in August 2011. The Management Plan was accepted and the Shire began looking for a suitable property for a community garden. Several sites were studied before Headingley Hill House being chosen as the most suitable site.
A steering committee formed in 2012 to begin working with the Shire to pull together the concept of the garden. The Management Plan was advertised and posted in the Shire offices and in the Kalamunda Library and in January 2013 the first workshop, facilitated by John Stanley, was held in the Kalamunda Town Square Hall.
At the end of that workshop the first official committee was elected.
The Kalamunda Community Garden officially opened in October 2013. It continues to be a significant community asset - and all are invited to get involved in the fun!
