if you would to put your hand up for one (or more!) of these roles please come along to one of our busy bees or contact us. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the grand opening of the garden has been delayed to Spring. We will advise the date closer to the time. It will work out well really as it will give us more time to get the garden planted and looking brilliant for the big day. If you would like to be on our mailing list for busy bees and other events, please send your name and email address to Lisa at lisa@inspiredbynature.biz and ask Lisa to add you to the mailing list or you can chat with other members on our facebook page.
We are now holding our busy bees weekly to get the garden in shape for the Grand Opening on 5th May. On 7th April Dario Franzinelli removed more unwanted trees, John Stanley completed the widening of the drive by moving the rock wall back a couple of feet, Clare Palmer and her team built the scarecrow for launch day, Linda Stanley and Donna Bicknell built the passionfruit trellis, Lisa and Murray Barton, Brian Sparkes, Marilyn Gallagher and Alison Bartlett barrowed to the rear and levelled the rest of the load of sand. Everyone worked like Trojans and the garden is coming along beautifully. Well done to all the crew. Great job!
Next busy bee is this Sunday 14th April 2013. We have whipper snipping, weed spraying, bed and path construction and removal of pruning waste and completion of passionfruit trellis. Other jobs that are needed to be done by volunteers are seeking sponsorship for items to go into our Welcome Packs for new members. If you fancy lending a hand at any of the jobs that need to be done either before on or our Open Day – like being a “Greeter”, guiding people where to park, putting together the items for the welcome packs, or anything else that you think would be useful, please contact us, we are open to ideas and always welcome volunteers. The second busy bee on 10th March 2013 was just in time for us to carry all the prunings and loppings from the previous working day in February out on to the verge for the kerbside collection. The pile was huge, about 2 metres high and 20 metres long, plus several garden bags full of raked kikuyu were put on the kerb as well. A great job of levelling and shifting of sand was done by Craig and Clare Palmer with the aid of digger machine. Sue Gosling Smith did a great job ensuring the workers were nourished with tea and pikelets. John Stanley and Dario Franzinelli removed some unwanted acacia trees, while Linda and Lisa measured and marked out the pathways, bedding areas and pizza area. Janette Loveridge and Elise Clegg did a great job raking and bagging the unwanted kikuyu.A privacy screen was erected before work started to protect our neighbours privacy on the town side. Our neighbour on the upper side came over with a power cord and electric jug to make sure we were well supplied with hot water for cuppas during the day. Thanks to everyone for a job well done.
